“Common sense in action”: ZMINA took part in JustConf2024
On November 28, 2024, Kyiv hosted the annual JustConf2024 conference under the slogan “Common Sense in Action”. The event, organised by JustGroup, brought together leading experts in the field of criminal justice to discuss key challenges and ways to reform the system.
The conference was attended by 10 speakers from various institutions, including the Advocacy Director of the Human Rights Centre ZMINA, Alena Lunova, who covered the role of criminal justice in reintegration.

- Nataliia Tkachenko – Director of the Department of Expert Support of Justice of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
- Stanislav Petrenko – Representative of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
- Tymur Koval – Deputy Head of the Investigation Department of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Sumy Region.
- Oleksandr Tsyvinskyi – Head of the NABU detective unit.
- Kostiantyn Kharakoz – Judge of the Commercial Court of Donetsk Region.
In her report “Verdicts or Fates: The Role of Criminal Justice in Reintegration”, Alena Lunova stressed the need for a fair approach to collaborationism cases and the importance of changes in legislation for the successful reintegration of the de-occupied territories.
“We must distinguish between those who are truly collaborators and those who were just trying to survive. Justice must be fair and humane in order to restore the trust of the residents of the occupied territories,” she stressed.
