Saving life during war: ZMINA gets first aid training
On June 23 and 24, the team of Human Rights Centre ZMINA attended first aid training conducted by the Ukrainian Red Cross Society (RCS). Some of ZMINA representatives updated their knowledge, but most of the participants were studying for the first time.
During the first day of the training, the participants studied the algorithms and principles of providing first aid, in particular, to a victim who is unconscious and breathes. In addition, they learned to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, stop various types of bleeding and apply tourniquets, use a defibrillator, provide assistance in case of suffocation, etc.
The next day, RCS coaches talked about wounds and injuries of various nature, about the algorithm of actions during these conditions. Separately, ZMINA team learned how to transport victims, provide assistance in case of burns, frostbite, stroke, etc.
“It is difficult to overestimate the importance of such training sessions. Also, in my opinion, they should be regular, especially given the present-day challenges. It was interesting and useful for me to learn, in particular, that an ambulance should be called according to a certain algorithm for the most effective result. And, of course, the other knowledge and skills acquired during these two days will allow us to feel more confident in our dangerous time,” said ZMINA deputy head Ihor Yakubovskyi.
This is not the first training of this kind for ZMINA: at the beginning of February 2022, the team was learning how to rescue injured people in preparation for a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The training took place with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation.
