Events that have already taken place
The side event “Eleven Years of Russian Occupation in Ukraine: Consequences of Human Rights Violations for Civilians and Children” will take place on the margins of the UN General Assembly in New York with the support of the Permanent Mission of Lithuania to the UN and the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN. The event will be held in CR-8, UNHQ, on December 2 at 13:15–14:30.
The side event “Through Ukraine’s Lens: Defending the ICC Now for All Victims of Atrocity Crimes” will take place on the margins of the Assembly of States Parties to the International Criminal Court in The Hague. The event will be held in Room Yangtze 1 on December 1 at 13:15.
This Monday, 17 November, the Third International Conference Crimea Global. Holding On, Speaking Out will kick off in Kyiv — an event that brings together voices from around the world to deepen the understanding of Ukraine, its struggle for freedom, and Crimea’s place in the global context. It is a platform where international experts, human rights defenders, and journalists gather once again to discuss resistance, justice, and the experiences of regions facing violence and colonial pressure today.
We would like to remind you that on 17–18 November, the Third International Conference Crimea Global: Understanding Ukraine through the South will be held.
On 17–18 November 2025, Kyiv will host the Third International Conference “Crimea Global: Understanding Ukraine through the South.” This year’s event, held under the slogan “Holding On, Speaking Out,” will focus on strengthening Ukraine’s ties with countries of Asia, Africa, and Latin America through discussions of shared challenges, global security issues, and the consequences of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
On November 15 at 2 p.m. the human right action “Empty Chairs” will be held at Sophia Square in support of journalists, writers, cultural artists and human rights defenders who have gone missing, been imprisoned or are in captivity due to Russia’s war against Ukraine. The event is organized by PEN Ukraine and Center for Civil Liberties.
The side event “Denying a Fair Trial as an Atrocity Crime during Russia’s War against Ukraine” takes place on Friday, 10 October 2025, at 14:30-15:30 in the Krolewski room on the margins of the Warsaw Human Dimension Conference. It is organized by the Human Rights Centre ZMINA and Media Initiative for Human Rights with the support of the Czech Delegation to the OSCE, Human Rights House Foundation, and the Netherlands Helsinki Committee.
The side event “Patterns of repression in occupied territories of Ukraine: Human Rights and Humanitarian Perspectives” takes place on Tuesday, 7 October 2025, at 13:30-14:30 in the Opera room on the margins of the Warsaw Human Dimension Conference. It is organized by the Human Rights House Crimea and its member organizations, particularly Human Rights Centre ZMINA, Crimean Human Rights Group, Crimea SOS, CCE “Almenda” and Regional Center for Human Rights, with support of the Human Rights House Foundation.
The side event “Targeting Truth: Media Freedom Under Russia’s Aggression in Ukraine” takes place on Tuesday, 7 October 2025, at 8:30-9:30 in the Krolewski room on the margins of the Warsaw Human Dimension Conference. It is organized by the Human Rights Centre ZMINA, Media Initiative for Human Rights, and Institute of Mass Information, with support of the UK Delegation to the OSCE, Human Rights House Foundation, and the Netherlands Helsinki Committee.
The side event “From Discrimination to Demographic Engineering: Systemic Abuses of Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights in the Occupied Territories of Ukraine” will take place on the margins of the 60th Session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. The event will be held in Room V, Building A, on October 3 at 13:00. It is organized by the Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic, the Permanent Mission of the United Kingdom, the Permanent Mission of Ukraine, Human Rights Centre ZMINA, Crimea SOS, CCE “Almenda”, Regional Center for Human Rights, and Human Rights House Crimea.
On 18 September at 11:00 Kyiv time (10:00 CEST), the Ukraine Crisis Media Centre (UCMC) will host a press conference on the topic: “Is the Government Developing a Policy for Victims of War?”.
A side event “Crimea: 11 years of occupation – restoring justice, reinforcing OSCE commitments” will take place during the Helsinki+50 Conference at Finlandia Hall on 31 July from 12:30 to 13:15. It will highlight Russia’s aggression against Ukraine since 2014, particularly the occupation of Crimea, as a direct challenge to the core principles and values of the Helsinki Final Act, as well as will underscore that collective OSCE action is essential to uphold the rules-based international order.
A side event “The Future of the Helsinki Final Act: Restoring Justice and Ensuring Russia’s Accountability” will take place during the Helsinki+50 Conference at Finlandia Hall on 31 July from 8:45 to 9:30. The event will focus on the immense human suffering and systematic persecutions caused by Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and its systematic violations of the Helsinki Final Act. Ukrainian civil society organisations will discuss patterns of human rights violations, war crimes, and crimes against humanity committed by Russia.
On July 9, Rome (Italy) will host the event “Ukraine and Italy. Why does Crimea unite us?” to discuss the current situation in the occupied Crimea, as well as the challenges caused by the ongoing occupation, in particular in the area of human rights violations. It will take place within the framework of the fourth Ukraine Recovery Conference.

On 5 June 2025, Ukraine Crisis Media Center will host a press conference “How can lustration become one of the tools to overcome the consequences of Russian armed aggression against Ukraine?”. Organiser: The Human Rights Centre ZMINA.
Ukrainian and international civil society, in close cooperation with EU institutions, Permanent Representations and the Mission of Ukraine to the EU, announce the Crimea Week in Brussels, “Thinking of People, not Territories”. It takes place from 12 to 16 May 2025, in various venues in Brussels.
The panel discussion “The Unsung Lullabies: Bring Kids Back UA” is going to be held in Berlin, Germany, on September 7. Onysiia Syniuk, legal analyst of ZMINA will join the event during the session “Civil society involvement in recording, investigation, documentation of war crimes, and efforts to return deported children – presentation of the challenges and the fruits of engagement” in order to raise awareness on children’s rights violations.
