WARNING! Unknown individuals are sending fake messages on behalf of ZMINA
The Human Rights Centre ZMINA warns against fake letters sent on our behalf to NGOs, in particular to Belarusian diaspora communities in Europe, particularly in Poland.
In these messages, unknown individuals impersonate representatives of ZMINA, in particular the so-called “Mykola Oksynuk”, and allegedly collect information about Belarusians detained for supporting Ukraine or opposing the Lukashenko regime, in particular cases against the Belarusian Hajun project. The letters come from the address oksynukmykola@protonmail.
The authors of the letters refer to our organisation’s activities, mention investigations into Russian war crimes, support for refugees and political prisoners, and suggest “submitting data for possible inclusion in exchange lists”.
ZMINA has no connection to this mailing!
Our organisation does not have any employees with that name, and all official correspondence is sent only from addresses ending in @zmina.ua. We do not involve private individuals in the collection of sensitive information and never make such requests outside of official channels.
“Such fake messages are being distributed allegedly on behalf of our organisation. Please be cautious and do not provide any information to anyone. If suspicious individuals contact you claiming to be ZMINA staff, please inform us“, urges the Head of the Board of the Human Rights Centre ZMINA Tetiana Pechonchyk.
How to verify that you are indeed being contacted by representatives of ZMINA:
- All members of the Human Rights Centre ZMINA team are listed in the Team section on our official website zmina.ua/en.
- The official email address of the organisation has the domain @zmina.ua.
- The latest contact information is available on the website in the Contacts section.
We urge journalists, activists, and partner organisations to be vigilant about phishing attempts and the collection of personal data under the guise of human rights activities.
