Coaching for trainers who protect rights of children held in Kyiv

August 25-28, Kyiv hosted the coaching session for the trainers who work to protect the rights and interests of children and youth of the risk groups.

The coaching session was the part of the training course “Protecting and ensuring the rights of children and youth of the risk groups”, implemented by the NGO “Human Rights Information Center” with the support of the International Charitable Foundation “AIDS Foundation East-West (AFEW) – Ukraine” in collaboration with the International School of Human Rights and Civil Actions and the Educational Human Rights House – Chernihiv.

One of the trainers, Oleksandr Voitenko, noted, “It is felt that we work with already prepared participants, who have not only the desire to protect the rights of children and youth of the risk groups, but also the understanding of the concept of human rights and children’s rights, in particular, and are aware of the basic mechanisms and principles of the protection of these rights.”

During the four days of the coaching session, the participants studied the content and methodology of one-day training for specialists, examined the teaching methods, and drafted the plans of educational activities on their own.

The coaching session was conducted by trainers Oleksandr Voitenko, coordinator of the formal education direction of the All-Ukrainian educational program “Understanding Human Rights” and Serhiy Burov, chairman of board of the Educational Human Rights House – Chernihiv, experts Oleksiy Lazarenko, head of the criminal police department dealing with children’s issues of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine and Andriy Kinash, member of the board of the NGO “MART.” They shared coaching tricks with the participants and told how to catch the interest of the audience, whether it consists of children, social workers, services for children, or lawyers.

The coaching participants underwent the training on human rights, the specialized training on children’s rights, and several remote sessions.

“We should praise the efforts of the participants as they have been involved in the coaching session since March. They wrote the essay and studied the literature then. The first session was held in April. They constantly perform tasks, prepare materials, and are not afraid of asking the questions if they have some…” project manager Natalia Novyk said.

The participants promised to conduct their own similar coaching sessions and share experiences in the near future.

“I’m full of energy, inspired with ideas and ready to teach my colleagues how to protect the rights of children,” one of the coaching participants said.
