Free online course on detainees’ rights launched as part of the DIGNITY Project
A new E-Course “Access to Justice and Procedural Rights of Detainees — Detention Standards: EU & UN Legal Frameworks”, is now available as part of the DIGNITY Project.
Created with AIThe free online course was developed by the Center for European Constitutional Law (CECL) as part of the EU-funded DIGNITY Project. It will help participants deepen their understanding of international and European detention standards and safeguards for detainees’ rights.
The course combines an overview of EU and UN legal standards with practical guidance on how to apply them. In particular, participants will gain a better understanding of safeguards for detainees’ rights and states’ obligations under European and international human rights standards.
The course will be useful for judges, prosecutors, lawyers and legal practitioners, academics, National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) monitors, civil society representatives and students, as well as anyone working on detention, access to justice and the protection of human rights in places of detention.

The DIGNITY Project aims to improve access to justice and protect the procedural rights of people held in pre-trial detention. The project conducts research, provides training and develops practical tools for professionals. It is implemented by the Centre for European Constitutional Law (CECL) in partnership with the European Prison Litigation Network (EPLN) and the Human Rights Centre ZMINA, with financial support from the European Union.
