How to protect the rights of people in detention: European Standards Guide on Access to Justice now available in Ukrainian

The international DIGNITY Project has published the “European Standards Guide on Access to Justice”, a practical resource for lawyers, legal practitioners and other professionals working to protect the rights of people held in pre-trial detention.

The guide provides an overview of key European standards and practical recommendations on ensuring access to justice for people deprived of their liberty. It will help legal practitioners navigate international standards and more effectively protect people’s rights in cases involving pre-trial detention.

The guide was developed by the Centre for European Constitutional Law (CECL) and is intended for legal practitioners, academics, members of national preventive mechanisms, civil society organisations and anyone interested in human rights and the rule of law.

The publication is available in five languages: Ukrainian, English, French, Greek and Portuguese. 

The DIGNITY Project promotes the implementation of the European Commission Recommendation on detention through a cross-sectoral approach involving legal professionals, civil society organisations and National Preventive Mechanisms from Greece, Portugal and Ukraine, together with partners from 19 EU Member States and Council of Europe member states.

The Project is implemented by:

• in Greece — CECL, the Centre for European Constitutional Law (Themistocles and Dimitris Tsatsos Foundation);
• in Portugal — the European Prison Litigation Network (EPLN), in partnership with Forum Penal.
