Crimea Days in Czechia 2026: Discovering Ukrainian Crimea in the Heart of Europe

Crimea Days 2026, taking place in Prague and Brno, Czech Republic, from 17 to 20 September 2026, will introduce Czech and international audiences to Crimea as a vibrant part of Ukraine and Europe. Following the first edition held in Brussels in 2025, Crimea Days will bring together cultural events, film screenings, concerts, discussions and expert briefings focused on Crimea’s history, culture, current realities and the consequences of Russia’s occupation.

Crimea is a unique part of Europe with a rich history, diverse cultural heritage and a strong identity shaped over centuries. It is an integral part of Ukraine and the homeland of the Crimean Tatars, the indigenous people of Crimea, whose culture, traditions and historical memory are an essential part of the peninsula’s heritage.

Since Russia’s occupation of Crimea in 2014, the peninsula has faced systematic human rights violations, persecution, militarization and attempts to suppress Ukrainian identity and Crimean Tatar culture. The occupation has become a challenge not only for the people of Crimea but also for European security, international law and the protection of fundamental human rights.

At the same time, Crimea is much more than a story of occupation. It is a story of people, culture, resilience and identity. Through personal stories, music, cuisine, art and traditions, Ukrainian Crimea continues to connect with Europe and the wider world.

For Czech society, Crimea Days will provide an opportunity to better understand why Crimea matters. The program will highlight how the occupation of Crimea affects regional stability, international justice and the broader European security landscape. It will also reflect on the important support provided by the Czech Republic to Ukraine and highlight the importance of continued cooperation.

It is organized by the Human Rights House Crimea and its member organizations, including Crimean Process, Human Rights Centre ZMINA, Crimean Human Rights Group, CrimeaSOS, Regional Center for Human Rights and Centre of Civil Education “Almenda”, in cooperation with partners, including Crimean Projekt Foundation “Q-hub”, CrimeaVox Media, People in Need, Nesehnuti, Prague Civil Society Centre, Generation for Ukraine and Embassy of Ukraine in Czechia.
